Growing up I was a curious kid.  I was really interested in people and was drawn to them in a unique way.  I wanted to understand people and their story.  When we were out at a restaurant or anywhere in public, for that matter, it was not uncommon for my parents to tell me to “stop staring.”  I wasn’t trying to be insensitive or rude; I was truly interested in learning more about people and their story, even if it was through the powers of observation.  That same curiosity has stayed with me and is one of the foundations of my counseling practice.  I strive to offer a safe space where people can share their story and be met with understanding and compassion and together we can be curious about how to move forward and take the steps toward repairing, restoring and healing.

I completed my undergraduate schooling at Cornell College, Iowa and pursued my Masters in Counseling Psychology Counselor Education at the University of Colorado, Denver.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado.

Prior to private practice, I worked as a manager and program director and provided individual, family, and group therapy in residential and day-program settings that specialized in at-risk youth, trauma, abuse, addictive behaviors, depression, and anxiety.

I have worked with clients with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem as well as relationship and intimacy challenges.

My counseling style is warm and interactive while direct and supportive. My approach combines Emotionally Focused Therapy with Systemic, Attachment-Focused and Solution-Focused modalities. I will listen and tailor your counseling needs as we see fit.

I am a Colorado native, and enjoy the company of my family and friends and the laughter we create together.

I’m an avid sports fan and on any given Saturday or Sunday I can be found watching a football, baseball or hockey game.  I love a good book and snuggling up with my beloved Jack Russell Terrier.  Look below to meet Fancy.

Hi! I’m Fancy and I’m a 12 year-old Jack Russel Terrier and I’m a therapy dog. I have been working with Amy for 12 years and together we’re a good team. Do you want to know how I help people?

Just like my mom, I specialize in relationships! My job as a therapy dog is to help you feel better and be a good communicator.

One of the main ways that I can help you in your relationships is by increasing your oxytocin levels. Oxytocin is a hormone that makes you feel good, and that alone will help you in your counseling journey!

But I can do more than that!

I’m really good with feedback. Not to brag, but I am a very good communicator, and I would be glad to help you practice your listening and observing skills so we can practice communication together.

Also, I can naturally give you positive reinforcement because when you control your own emotions, I will want to be around you.

Please reach out if you would like to meet me! I would love to learn more about you and how I can help! And if you have any questions about me, just ask!
