Relationship Counseling

I believe that we are meant to be in relationship with one another and there are all kinds of relationships.  But let’s be honest, relationships can be challenging and they require time, love, attention and intention in order for them to be successful.  If you feel like you are having the ‘same fight’ over and over, feel disconnected from your partner or communication feels impossible I will help you learn the cycles that lead to disconnection and tools to support repair and reconnection.  Using The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) I can offer couples therapy in the following areas:

  • Pre-marital counseling

  • Communication

  • Increasing connection

  • Sexuality

  • Infidelity

  • Finances

  • Conflict Management

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Trauma is defined as any event from the past, big or small, that causes distress in the present.   The level of distress from this trauma can vary.  But, what research has taught us is that we store these events in our memory differently than we store non-traumatic memories.  As a result, the area of our brain responsible for our fight-or-flight response, the amygdala, fires at an increasing rate as though we are in danger, even when we are not. This can happen when we experience something in the present that represents an aspect of our traumatic experience.  Thus, we can end up feeling depressed, anxious, angry, frustrated and hopeless and avoid anything that reminds us of our trauma.  The unique and often times faster approach of EMDR allows a person to reprocess these trauma events so that they no longer hold the same charge they once did and interfere with life in a disruptive way.

KIDS & TEENS

  • Being a youth today is not easy. The pressures of social media, navigating being in and out of relationships, learning how to express how you are feeling.  It’s important to feel like you have a safe place to be heard and seen.  I have been supporting kids and adolescents since 2004 and helping them explore issues related to depression, social and generalized anxiety, self-expression and sexual identity. Please reach out for how I can support your child.

SUPPORT FOR THE HELPER

Mental Health Workers · Nurses · Doctors · First Responders · Attorneys

When we hold space for others and their pain it is often difficult to step back and take space to recognize the need, take the time and honor the fear we may feel in taking care of ourselves. Yet, when we do take the time to step back and honor our needs and sit in our own pain, something beautiful happens, our capacity to do what we do best, help others, expands. I offer support for specifically for those like you, whether you are struggling professionally from burnout or compassion fatigue or personally from relational challenges, or recovering from a trauma, I am here to help.
